Copyright and use of Intellectual Property

In 2014, the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) changed copyright laws to allow parody of material, as long as it does not compete with the original text. The following questions are now asked in cases of copyright:

Did the piece of media have copyright attached?

Was the copyright holder contacted?

If not, did you know how to contact the copyright holder?

REVISION TASK:

1. What arguments does Wired use to give its opinions on copyright laws?
- Wired said that nearly all of the covers were created by fans out of love and without negatively effecting the market value of the original. They also stated that they think that it is the most popular form of creativity being criminalised.

2. Do you think UGC artists covering songs should be subjected to copyright law?
- I don't believe that UGC artists covering songs should be subjected to copyright law, as this is the way that many big artists have started their careers, and by subjecting artists to the copyright law, they are taking away the opportunity of an artist being noticed.

3.Why is the video maker being sued?
- The video maker is being sued due to the fact that they don't have the rights and licensing to upload a cover of a song sue to the copyright law.

4. Why do you think the opinions of the artists and the record label differ?
 -  The opinion between artists and record labels may differ as they may see things from different perspectives. And artist such as Justin Bieber, who started his career by covering songs, may think that people should be able to cover songs and post them as it's given them more of an opportunity to be spotted by someone in the music industry. A record label however, may just be interested in getting the royalties and money for the artist.
